NOAA-PIRO Protected Species Handling & Release Animations

NOAA’s Pacific Islands Regional Office developed a comprehensive protected species handling and release illustrated guide to help inform Hawaii longline commercial fishery participants on how to safely release protected species. I led the production and development of animated training videos for four different species groups, which served as a companion to the illustrated guide. Our team used 3D animation stylized to match the 2D illustrations provided by NOAA. NOAA is using these animations to train fishermen in the safe handling and release of endangered species accidentally caught on their longlines, ultimately helping these endangered populations to recover and restore balance to their ecosystems.
